All students are evacuated and safe. There was a bus fire while parked at Switzerland County Elementary. All students and bus driver safely evacuated from the bus. Emergency services are on-site. Switzerland County Elementary ONLY will be closed today - Thursday, December 8, 2026. Due to the proximity of the bus to the school, we will need the day for inspections and clean up. The fire was contained to the bus only and not the school. All SCES students on a bus will be transported home on a bus. If you need an alternative drop off, please call transportation at (812) 427-2611. We apologize for inconvenience.
School will be closed for Switzerland County Elementary School due to a water main break Friday, December 19th, 2025.

This means that students will be expected to log on at specific times to participate in live, virtual lessons with their teachers. Your child should have already received a schedule outlining the times they need to be online. Please make sure they are prepared to log in on time. For students in grades PK-2, the day will be asynchronous, and assignments will be posted by 9:00 a.m.
A reminder that we will also be hosting parent-teacher conferences tomorrow, September 25th, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We highly encourage you to take this opportunity to meet with your child's teachers to discuss their progress and academic goals. To schedule an appointment, please call your child's school directly.
