March 19th, 2020 Update

Parents and Guardians, 3/19/20
Governor Holcomb just announced Indiana school corporations will have no face to face or in person instruction
until May 1st. This does not mean we are out of session totally. We will use our E-Learning days to continue the
educational process. We will open our district wifi settings for parking lot use if needed. We are working on
providing links to companies who will provide free mifi or hotspot devices during the COVID-19 issue for students.
Spring Break will continue to run March 23rd to April 3rd. We will have four E-Learning days April 6th – April 9th.
We have a holiday on April 10th, no school. Students will then resume E-Learning April 13th to May 1st. We will be
in communication on how we will continue instruction during that time period the week of April 6th. Currently Prom
has been postponed, graduation is still scheduled, but we are making possible adjustment plans IF needed. There has
been no change to graduation at this time until we receive further instruction from the Governor’s Office, Indiana
Department of Education, or the Health Officials.
Governor’s press conference summary in regards to schools:
1st. All schools must modify to distance learning options until May 1st.
2nd. No state testing this year for Indiana. This includes graduation exams.
3rd . Indiana Department of Education will provide guidance on graduation requirements, dual credits, and
graduation pathways.
As a school corporation we will continue to provide student, and senior citizen meals, during this time period. If you
would like to have a meal delivered or picked up please call 812-427-2611. Senior citizen meals only during the first
week of spring break.
Teaching assignments will ALL be available on Google Classroom.
Please email your teacher for assistance. Teachers will perform their duties off site during this time. They will
continue to be available via email. If you need assistance, via the phone, please email your teacher and they will call
you at the first possible opportunity.
If you would like to speak to a school counselor about graduation requirements, or other questions, please call
812-427-2611 and we will have the counselor or principal call you as soon as possible.
We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time for our community, the State of Indiana and our Nation.
Please stay safe and follow these three rules: social distance, wash hands, and check on your neighbors and family
via phone calls or emails.
Thank you,
Rod Hite, Superintendent
Switzerland County School Corporation
