Emma was honored with this title in March of 2017 and she retains the title through June 2018. What prompted Emma to become involved with this was her participation in SCHS’s own Student Council and her interests in speech writing and leadership. She went through an interview process conducted by the executive director and other current district representatives of IASC. Making it through the interview process was the first step. Then she spent one day at a state convention campaigning and running for the position. Emma persevered and was elected. Next she attended the IASC’s camp where she spent an intensive week of leadership training with delegates from all over Indiana. The curriculum included: Goal Setting; Communication; Group Process; Problem Solving; Organization; Inclusion; Tolerance & Diversity; Citizenship & Patriotism; and Project Idea Sharing. Each delegate then returned home with new ideas, projects & activities to incorporate into their own schools. All of this prepared Emma to be able to work with other representatives from the state of Indiana to plan out yearly events for the IASC. Mr. Shaun Holliday, Student Council Sponsor and teacher, and Mr. Gregg Goewert, Principal as well as, Switzerland County High School are all very proud of Emma and wishes her every success as she carries all she has learned to college and beyond to become a successful citizen.
