From head coach Adam Pietrykowski:
The Switzerland County Pacers are your 2017 ORVC Track and Field Champions! The boys team, who came painfully close to winning a conference title last season, left nothing to chance tonight winning by a margin of 67 points over second place South Ripley. The Pacers were led by junior Bailey Bennett who scored a team high three first place finishes, winning the 110 hurdles, the 400 dash, and teaming with Will Pike, Cameron Niswander and Joseph Hemmingway to win the 1600 meter relay. Bennett, who has fought injuries all season long, is rounding into form at just the right time. Another junior, Keegan Morris, also scored two first place finishes, winning the 100 meter dash, and anchoring the 400 meter relay team of Joseph Hemmingway, Brody Splain, and Hunter Hayes. In perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening first year track competitor Justin Green shocked the seeds but winning the Shot Put over a very accomplished field. These boys have had this title on their minds all season long, and have remained dedicated to chasing after it. They laid a foundation on which many more successes in track and field are to come. They will compete again next Thursday at the Jeffersonville sectional.
